Jim provides practical and understandable guidance, advice and support to employers, plan sponsors and fiduciaries regarding qualified pension and profit sharing plans, welfare plans, nonqualified plans, executive compensation and other benefit programs.
From 401(k) plan compliance and corrections to executive compensation, due diligence and counseling employers on benefits issues in mergers and acquisitions, Jim has done almost everything in the employee benefits arena. His extensive experience includes counseling employers on design, compliance and operation of qualified retirement plans, nonqualified deferred compensation plans, welfare plans and stock-based compensation plans. Jim also counsels clients on fiduciary issues and has experience in fiduciary litigation.
Jim received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center and his
B.S. in Business Economics from Colorado State University.
He is a member of the State Bars of California and Arizona.

In 2010, Jim’s peers elected him to membership in the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, the highest honor awarded to employee benefits lawyers. He was named one of Sacramento Magazine’s Top Lawyers in 2017 and 2018.
