New Continuing Education Course for CPAs: ESOPs – What to Say When a Client Asks

July 26, 2024 by Kevin Long

CalCPA has a new virtual course with CPE credit designed specifically for CPAs: ESOPs – What to Say When a Client Asks. CPAs play a critical role in guiding corporate clients through complex financial situations, including those related to succession planning and employee compensation. Taught by Employee Benefits Law Group Shareholder, Kevin Long, this course helps CPAs educate their clients on what they should know about ESOPs.

Course Overview

The course provides you with the knowledge and skills to understand and explain ESOPs to your clients, ensuring they can make informed decisions. You will learn the fundamentals of what an ESOP really is, the tax advantages for corporations and the shareholders, and the benefits for employees. We will also compare and contrast C corporation versus S corporation ESOPs.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Determine the fundamental questions and concerns a client may have about implementing an ESOP.
  • Recognize client fact patterns that are amenable to an ESOP as a client succession or benefits solution.
  • Identify what tax incentives and employee benefits of an ESOP are most relevant to your client.
